About the fibre
Ramie has been known to man for nearly 6,000 years and comes from the beautiful white nettle. With its reputation as a rot-proof fibre, its extremely high durability (its yarn cannot be broken by hand), and its luster, it gives life to fabrics qualified as «plant silk». Its cellulose is also very popular for papermaking. To produce, spin and weave it, it requires an exceptional mastery of processes, complicated due to the fact that the spun fibers are hirsute and are not conducive to cohesion. The fibre is stripped and hand-woven, then laminated.
